Privacy Policy (Dissecta)

This privacy policy explains how personal data is processed when you use the iOS app Dissecta. For this website, see the separate Privacy Policy (Website).

2. Core principle

Dissecta works without a user account and without a server operated by us. We do not collect or store personal data from app users on our own systems. Game progress and settings are processed on your device; optionally, Apple iCloud may sync progress across your devices (see section 3).

3. Local storage and iCloud sync

Your device stores, in particular: completed levels and stars, hint balance, endless-mode records, and the daily-puzzle streak. These data are not transmitted to us.

If iCloud is enabled on your device and you are signed in with your Apple ID, the app may synchronise this progress via Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Storage (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore) across your devices. Sync is handled by Apple; we do not operate our own cloud service and have no access to the contents of your iCloud account. Without iCloud, the app continues to work fully offline on the device.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract / providing the app’s features) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preserving your progress when changing devices). More information on Apple’s processing: Apple Privacy Policy.

Retention: the data on your device stays there until you delete it — removing the app removes the data with it. Progress mirrored to iCloud can be deleted in iOS Settings under “Apple ID → iCloud”. As we never receive a copy of this data, we can neither view it nor delete it on your behalf.

4. Notifications (local reminders)

Dissecta can optionally remind you of the daily puzzle with notifications (e.g. at 10:00 and 22:00). These reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely locally on your device (UNUserNotificationCenter); no push servers are involved and no data is transmitted to us or to third parties for this purpose. The notifications only appear if you have granted the app the iOS notification permission, and you can disable them at any time in the app settings or in the iOS notification settings.

5. In-app purchases

Purchases of hint packs are handled entirely through the App Store by Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd. or Apple Inc.). We do not receive payment or contact details. Purchase verification and the crediting of hints happen on your device; from Apple we receive only aggregated sales and revenue statistics, which allow no conclusions about individual people. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies. Purchases are disabled during the TestFlight beta.

6. TestFlight beta

During the public beta, Dissecta is distributed via Apple’s TestFlight. If you joined through the public beta link, Apple does not pass your email address on to us — your participation is pseudonymous from our side. We receive installation and session counts as well as crash and usage reports for the beta version, which include the device model and operating system version. If you send feedback through TestFlight, we receive its content, any screenshot, and the contact details you choose to provide with it. If you joined through a personal email invitation instead, we additionally hold that email address. We use these data solely to run the beta and fix bugs.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in fixing bugs and improving the app before release). Participation in the beta is voluntary; you can leave it at any time in TestFlight. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies to Apple’s processing.

7. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR). You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). To exercise these rights, a message to the address given in section 1 is enough.

The supervisory authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen), Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany. You may, however, contact any data protection supervisory authority.

No automated decision-making, including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR), takes place.

8. Changes

This privacy policy will be updated when the app changes (e.g. new features). Last updated: 6 August 2026.

The current version of Dissecta contains no advertising and no tracking. Should advertising be introduced, this policy will be extended with a corresponding section beforehand.
